I'm closing in on 3 times your age and I'm STILL an optimist. Had similar feelings w McCarthyism, Vietnam, Watergate . . . Easy to despair; but if we keep slogging (& fighting) things come right again. Today's times are indeed a bit scary, though. Thanks for this good piece.
