For me it was the Chesapeake & Ohio (or the Norfolk & Western) thundering through beautiful downtown Ashland VA (in the 1940s.) Races along every third tie, designs made with bobby pins on the tracks . . . (I have a zillion stories and even a recent short story collection about those days. Thanks for the memories!!
