Fine, thoughtful piece. In more than 3 decades of working with people at life's end I've known many like both your mom & your mother-in-law and I honor them all. Especially you, for helping your mom die as she chose. Every one of us will die, every one of us can benefit from considering our options and making our wishes known to loved ones.
